Career planning should begin during the high school years to cultivate ambition. Ambition leads to obtaining vision and setting goals. Some people will go there whole lives never knowing “what they want to do when they grow up”.
It is not unusual for someone to change their career path during college. Likewise, it is not unusual for someone to obtain a four year degree and not even work in their field of study. The interests you have are not the only things needed to choose a career. More importantly, you need to understand what environment you can work in that will create the least amount of stress for you.
When choosing a career, it is important to take into consideration what your strengths, weaknesses and needs are.
Ask yourself the following questions.
- Do you relate to tasks or relationships better?
- Do you have high intellectual energies?
- What degree of socialization do you need?
- To what degree do you exercise control over others?
- How much tolerance do you have for others to control you?
- How good are you at making decisions?
- To what degree are you comfortable working on things you have little understanding of?
These are just a few things that can be identified by taking a Temperament Analysis Profile at Applied Wisdom.
